Needless to say, it’s been a rough couple of months for Blue Bell. Last month, they voluntarily recalled their ice cream after Listeria concerns. Three people have died, and five people have gotten sick over the products. Now Blue Bell is literally pulling everything it makes from the shelf.
You will no longer see the ice cream of course, frozen yogurt, sherbet, and the other frozen treats that they make. Blue Bell decided to yank the products after a half gallon of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream tested positive for Listeria.
Christian Broda has learned that Blue Bell is promising that all its products will be safe before they go back on the shelves. The CEO of the company says he can’t say for certain how the Listeria got into the products. So some investigating will be done.
A Grub Street article asks a very important question that many may be wondering. Can Blue Bell come back from this? Or is this the end? This will be a costly endeavor, one estimate is millions of dollars. It doesn’t seem that the company was that stable to begin with.
And if they do survive this, eliminate the Listeria, and put their products back on the shelves – will people trust them? After all, ice cream can be found all over.
